Engineering health & retention, EU-native

Build at a pace that lasts.

Andante is the specialist tool that helps dev teams prevent burnout: it catches the early signs at group level, from work metadata and a short, science-backed check-in. Never your content. Never a name. Never surveillance.

  • EU-native by design
  • Only metadata, never your content
  • Your data stays yours
  • Anchored to a validated instrument (BAT)

Losing a senior developer costs more than any tool.

In a team, burnout rarely arrives all at once. It creeps in. A pace held a little too long, recovery that never quite comes back, experienced people who pull back long before they leave. By the time it reaches a resignation letter or a slipping roadmap, the cost is already paid: replacing a senior developer runs well past €100,000, and the team’s momentum goes with them. Andante reads the drift while it’s still reversible, so you can act on how the work is organised, not on the people doing it.

A quiet signal, read the right way.

  1. Step 1

    Passive signals, metadata only

With the company’s consent, Andante connects to the tools your team already uses: GitHub, Jira, calendars, Teams. It reads only metadata: when work happens, how it’s spread, how much it fragments. Never a line of code, a message, or an email.

  2. Step 2

    A short, validated check-in

Every two weeks, a short check-in built on the Burnout Assessment Tool (BAT), a validated scientific instrument, used unmodified. Voluntary, private, a minute of your time.

  3. Step 3

Read as a trajectory, not a verdict

Signals are read as a shift away from each person’s usual pace, sustained over weeks: never an absolute score, never a traffic light. What surfaces is a team trend and a lever you can actually pull.

A mirror, not an eye.

What the developer sees

Your own private dashboard. Your trend, your signals, yours alone. It’s for you, not about you.

What the manager sees

Aggregated team trends only. Never a person. Never a name. Personal data belongs to the person and only ever moves upward, in aggregate.

If it ever felt like being watched, people would quietly skew the data, and the signal would die. So we built it the other way around.

The specialist, not a dashboard add-on.

  • Burnout-first.

Built to do one thing well, not a “wellbeing” tab inside a generic people-analytics suite.

  • Built for devs.

The tools, the rhythms and the language of dev teams, not a generic office layer.

  • Hybrid by design.

Passive signals and a validated check-in. Neither is enough alone: the science is clear on that, and so are we.

  • EU-native.

Built inside European rules from day one, not adapted afterwards.

Horizontal people-analytics tools weren’t built for this. Individual-monitoring tools were built to do the opposite. Andante sits where no one else does.

Grounded in science. Honest about its limits.

Passive signals, on their own, only predict so much, and we’d rather say so. Metadata needs a validated human check-in to mean anything. That’s why Andante is anchored to the BAT (Schaufeli, KU Leuven, 2020), used unmodified as an objective reference, and reads passive signals as observable causes through the Job Demands-Resources model. Measure with science, explain with what’s observable, point to a lever. We don’t diagnose, and we don’t pretend to.

Andante is not a medical device and does not process biometric data: by design, and by European law.

Compliance isn’t the friction. It’s the point.

We didn’t add privacy at the end. Every irreversible decision was made with European law in the room.

  • EU data residency
  • GDPR and DPIA-ready
  • Built inside the EU AI Act
  • Art. 4 templates in onboarding
  • Pseudonymised at ingestion

Some choices we made once, and won’t unmake.

  1. Personal data belongs to the person.

  2. Never a diagnosis, never a traffic light: a trajectory.

  3. We look at the workload, never the person.

  4. Only metadata. Never your content.

  5. No biometric data. Ever.

  6. Aggregated by default: the company defines the structure, never the individual cells.

Portrait of Carmine Porpora, founder of Andante

Built by someone who has seen the cost of an unsustainable pace, inside IT and beyond.

Carmine Porpora, Founder

Data engineer at one of the world’s leading consulting firms, with four years in the field building and running data pipelines. Graduated in computer science with top honours (110 cum laude), studying while working. Andante grows out of the two things he knows best: data, and the people at risk of wearing down behind it. He designed Andante’s architecture inside European rules (only metadata, pseudonymisation at ingestion, no biometric data), with GDPR and the AI Act in hand from the first line, not as an afterthought.

I’ve seen burnout up close, inside the IT world and outside it. My first lesson came from my father: how much it matters to come to work with a clear mind. Then the numbers confirmed it: among devs it’s the norm, not the exception. I built Andante as the tool I wish had existed: it takes the science seriously, keeps the data with the person, and never feels like an eye over your shoulder.
